Ceremonial support
Ceremonial events are supported by support elements as and when appropriate or requested. These elements are supported through appropriate guidelines, parent area agreements (terms of engagement, release etc), funded and trained appropriately. The Ceremonial Support elements include, but are not limited to, the following:
- The AFP Mounted Cadre: Activated for identified ceremonial events as and when required and directly coordinated through the RCT
- The AFP Ceremonial Guard: A uniformed, volunteer team (predominantly ACT Policing and Protective Service members in the ACT Geographic Region), activated to assist in ceremonial events as and when required
- The AFP Pipes and Drums: Central to many AFP ceremonial events, from the provision of a solo piper (funeral, investitures etc) through to the full band (eg National Police Remembrance Day Service).
Assistant Ceremonial Officer Network
The Assistant Ceremonial Officer Network is staffed by volunteer members being identified by way of expression of interest, in each business area as appropriate. Assistant Ceremonial Officers are drawn from both AFP and APS Officers.
Assistant Ceremonial Officers may be required to coordinate or assist with the coordination of activities within their business area, for example:
- Police or Service funerals
- Award Ceremonies
- Police Remembrance Day Services
- Station Openings
- United Nations Day Services.
