Honours and Awards
Honours and Awards recognise the service of current and former members of the Australian Federal Police and other jurisdictional police. Members of the AFP may be recognised through the AFP Internal Awards, Australian Honours and Awards, ACT Government Honours and Awards, other jurisdictions, and foreign governments.
The AFP Internal Awards recognise the unique national of the organisation and its core values and outcomes.
Categories of AFP Internal Awards are:
- Commissioner’s Decorations
- Commissioner’s Commendations
- Commissioner’s Group Citations
- AFP Operational and Service Medals
Australian Honours and Awards that members of the AFP may be awarded include:
- Order of Australia
- Australian Bravery Decorations
- Meritorious Service Awards
- Service Awards
- Long Service Awards
ACT Government Awards that ACT Police Officer may be awarded include:
- ACT Community Protection Medal
- ACT Emergency Medal
- ACT Community Policing Medal
Other Jurisdictions may recognise member of the AFP. Permission to accept and wear other jurisdictional awards is determined by the AFP.
Foreign government honours and awards may be bestowed on members of the AFP. Permission to accept and wear foreign awards is given by the Governor‑General on the recommendation of the Prime Minister or Minister with portfolio responsibility for the Australian Honours System.
