National Manager’s/Chief Police Officer’s Awards
National Managers/Chief Police Officer’s awards will be in the form of certificates or letters of appreciation. These awards will recognise:
‘Significant service, acts or conduct ‘worthy of recognition’.
National Managers/Chief Police Officer’s awards are to be issued at the discretion of the relevant National Managers or the Chief Police Officer and will be administered by the relevant Corporate Services and People Strategies areas.
The National Manager’s/Chief Police Officer’s Awards will be available in the following categories:
- National Manager’s/Chief Police Officer’s Certificate; and
- National Manager’s/Chief Police Officer’s Letter of Appreciation.
Both these awards will be available to individuals, teams/groups including members of other agencies and members of the community. These awards will be recognised and awarded by way of certificates.
ACT Emergency Medal
The ACT Emergency Medal was awarded to selected uniformed staff and volunteers for their acts of courage and dedication to the Canberra community during the January 2003 bushfires.
The essential elements for the awarding of this medal are contained in the values of Courage, Leadership, Teamwork, Professionalism, Innovation, Integrity. These values form part of the selection criteria for the Emergency Medal.
The ACT Emergency Medal may be awarded (by the ACT Government) to registered or sworn members of a uniformed emergency response agency located in the Australian Capital Territory who:
- During January 2003 undertook a period of at least 8 hours duty[1] during a rostered period of 24 hours between 8 January 2003 and 19 January 2003;
- During the aforementioned period was primarily involved in the suppression of the bushfires or evacuation and protection of the community; and
- During the response, displayed dedication and professionalism to duty
The Lapel Pin may be awarded (by the ACT Government) to a member of the ACT Public Service who:
- During January 2003 undertook a period of at least 8 hours duty during a period of 24 hours between 8 January 2003 and 19 January 2003; and
- During the aforementioned period was involved to a significant degree in supporting the emergency response agencies; or
- Were directly involved in an Bushfire Recovery process
[1] This does not preclude those persons who through injury did not complete 8 hours duty.
ACT Community Protection Medal
The Australian Capital Territory Community Protection Medal (the Medal) will consist of a medal kit (containing a full size Medal, miniature Medal, ribbon bar and lapel pin) and a Certificate.
A maximum of five Medals in total will be awarded by the Government each year on Canberra Day.
Eligibility for the Medal extends to any person who is either an employee or volunteer of the ACT Ambulance Service, ACT Fire Brigade, ACT Bushfire Service, ACT Emergency Service or ACT Emergency Services Bureau. Eligibility also extends to any sworn or unsworn member of the Australian Federal Police.
A recipient must have been an employee or active volunteer of an above organisation at the time they are formally nominated in writing. Nominations are to be submitted to the respective senior officer of that organisation who is a member of the Recommending Committee.
