Gungahlin Open Day - 15 April 2008
This Saturday April 19, police, fire and emergency services will open to the doors to the public at the Joint Emergency Services Centre at Gungahlin. ACT Policing, ACT Fire Brigade, ACT Rural Fire Brigade and ACT Ambulance Service will have vehicles and equipment on display from 11.30am to 2.30pm, and officers from each service will be on hand to show visitors some of the specialised equipment. For the children, Constable Kenny Koala will be paying special visits, too.
ACT policing officers will provide guided tours of the police station and we will have members of the Specialist Response and Security (SRS) team on hand to demonstrate the latest in tactical equipment and equipment used by our water police and bomb response teams. The Police and Citizens Youth Club will also be on site with information on its great programs, too.
These activities will be complemented with presentations on Crime Stoppers, Missing Persons, Neighbourhood Watch and Safety House, with an open invitation to anyone who can help with these important community initiatives. Police volunteers will be cooking a barbeque and soft drinks will also be available.
Entry will cost a gold coin donation, with proceeds donated to the "Picking up the peaces" Kokoda charity trek by Canberra's emergency services personnel. I encourage everyone to come along and meet your local emergency services staff and volunteers and learn more about keeping our community safe.
The Joint Emergency Services Centre is located on Anthony Rolfe Avenue at the corner of Gozzard Street, Gungahlin. I look forward to seeing you all there.
