Graduation time - 16 September 2008
It’s that time of year again when the young adults of our community celebrate their graduation from high school, university or TAFE.
Whilst this is a great time for everyone to celebrate, I would like to take this opportunity to remind young Canberrans to enjoy their formals and after-parties in a safe and respectful manner.
Police are regularly called to noise complaints at graduation parties which have to be closed down prematurely, due to excessive noise or rowdy guests. By taking a few simple steps you can ensure you don’t invite the police to your party. For more information on how to “Party Smart” go to /act/drugs_alcohol/party_smart.html
Traffic Operations officers will also be out in force during this celebratory period. If you are going to drink, don’t drive! Catch a taxi or nominate a driver who will remain sober for the night.
Regular patrols will be conducted of all formal locations throughout Canberra and expect to see more random breath testing conducted on roads around the capital.
Congratulations to all graduates for 2008, enjoy your celebrations and look after your mates.
