Traffic Operations Team Hosts Fun Day for Road Trauma Victims

23 July 2006

There was a head of steam and plenty of sizzle at the Kingston Miniature Railway as ACT Policing’s Traffic Operations Team played host during a fun day out organised for victims of road trauma.

The head of Traffic Operations, Detective Superintendent Michael Chew, said that as well as providing families and victims with a fun-filled and entertaining outing, the occasion allowed police to show their empathy and support for those affected.

“People who are confronted with road trauma generally only see us [police] at the scene or when we bring them bad news,” Supt Chew said.

“Occasions like us help to show that police are part of the community, too.”

The occasion was co-hosted by the Centre for Road Trauma Support and the Emergency Services Authority.

Miniature trains took the guests on joyrides, sizzling sausages filled empty stomachs, and special showbags were provided. At the event, it was also announced that November 3 will be commemorated as the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
