SRS Bomb Response Accreditation

ACT Policing’s SRS Bomb Response team has been supervising the accreditation process of a number of trainees from both the ACT and NSW. The five week training and assessment process has seen members participate in a number of intensive exercises around Canberra.

Sergeant Mark Holmes has been supervising the process and says the standard required from participants is very high.

“This week we have seen members work together to isolate improvised explosive devices (IED), plan responses and conduct render safe operations to bring about safe resolutions to a variety of explosive related incidents. Participants are required to communicate effectively with each other to identify every eventuality,” says Sergeant Mark Holmes.

“The SRS Bomb Response team is in great demand and expanding the unit is essential. With the careful development of skills and the maintenance of the latest equipment, our knowledge has not only been vital in the identification of IED’s on home soil but also invaluable in the training of international police and emergency services. The SRS Bomb Response team has travelled to Indonesia and Thailand to train international specialist discipline police officers.”
