ACT Policing launches new advertising campaign: “It’s our community, too”

Friday, 08 June 2007

ACT Policing has launched its first multi-media advertising campaign in three years with a newly themed advertisement “It’s our community, too”.

The material for the campaign was written, produced, filmed and voiced completely in-house by Mr Glen Jones from the ACT Media & Marketing Team.

The theme was developed to communicate to the Canberra public that ACT Policing officers, while members of the Australian Federal Police, live and work and raise their families in the ACT.

The campaign comprises a 30-second commercial for cinema and television, and a 5-second version which is specifically edited for shopping centres.

The commercial is deliberately produced in black and white, with “snapshot” style cinematography, augmented real-world sound effects, and a voiceover. The closing frame and the voiceover combine to provide extra focus on the theme.

The first cinema advertisement features Constable Leigh Heazlewood in his former role as a motorcycle policeman with Traffic Operations. This advertisement will be followed up later in the year by another of a similar style which will feature Constable Hilda Gough.

Both officers already feature in posters which adopt the same community policing theme.

Radio advertisements, which will also feature police officers, are planned for later in the year. Printed and visual samples of the campaign are available on request to media.
