Police, RSPCA investigate animal cruelty
Thursday, 31 July 2008
ACT Policing and the RSPCA are conducting an investigation into an act of animal cruelty in Gungahlin yesterday.
Police believe that on Wednesday July 23, an unknown person has gained entry to the rear yard of a private residence on Gundaroo Drive, Gungahlin and struck the two small Maltese Terrier Cross dogs from that residence with an unknown implement.
The animals were then taken from that yard and dumped on a pile of builder’s rubble a short distance away, where they were still alive but in critical condition. The dogs were later found and taken to the local veterinarian.
However, one of the dogs, a 9-year-old female was so badly injured she had to be humanely euthanased. The second, a 3-year-old male, remains in a critical condition.
Police are investigating this callous act and are appealing for anyone who may have heard or witnessed anything suspicious around Gundaroo Drive, near Donnelly Lane, Fishlock Lane and Swain Street, Gungahlin on Wednesday July 23, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1300 888 000 or the RSPCA (ACT) on 6287 8100.
