ACT Policing media release
Report crime on-line
Friday, 06 June 2008
ACT Policing today announced a new way for Canberrans to report crime in their community.
ACT Region Crime Stoppers, in partnership with ACT Policing and other community sponsors, will be adding an on-line capability to report crime via the new ACT Crime Stoppers website: www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
Police will upload forensic facefits of suspects, photographs of missing persons and other information relating to unsolved cases, as well as providing information on the Schools Youth Crime Awareness and Community Crime Awareness programs.
The website has a “report crime online” facility where information can be provided anonymously by members of the community. People can also log on to the site later and check on the status of investigations to which they have provided information.
The website compliments the Crime Stoppers toll-free telephone number of 1800 333 000, which has been a valuable resource for police investigations since it was instigated in the ACT in late 1996.
Since the Crime Stoppers service began in the ACT, information provided has resulted in 699 arrests, 1882 charges laid, $870,350 worth of property recovered and drugs with a street value of $15.9 million seized.
