Child exploitation arrest in Victoria

A 58-year-old man faced child exploitation offences in Melbourne Magistrates Court this afternoon following his arrest in Altona by Australian Federal Police (AFP) today.

Acting on information supplied by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the AFP Child Protection Operations Team executed a search warrant at the man’s Carrum Downs residence on 10 April 2008.

During the execution of the search warrant a laptop computer allegedly containing 250 images and two video’s of child abuse material was located and seized.

Further investigations were carried out and AFP Agents today arrested and charged the man with use of a carriage service to cause child pornography material to be transmitted to the person and to transmit child pornography material contrary to Section 474.19 of the Commonwealth Criminal Code Act 1995 and possess child pornography contrary to Section 70(1) of the Crimes Act (Vic) 1958.

The maximum penalty for these offences is 10 years imprisonment.

The man was bailed to reappear in Melbourne Magistrates Court on 24 October.
