Joint Australian Federal Police and Customs Media Release
A 45-year-old Malaysian woman will face Brisbane Magistrates Court today charged with attempting to smuggle almost two kilograms of cocaine into Australia.
Customs officers at Brisbane International Airport stopped the woman after she arrived on a flight from South America yesterday morning.
A search of her luggage allegedly revealed a bag of fine white powder in the lining of the suitcase.
The woman was referred to the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and her bag was forensically examined.
Preliminary testing of the powder indicated the presence of cocaine.
The woman was subsequently charged by the AFP with attempting to import a marketable quantity of a border controlled drug under the Criminal Code Act 1995.
The maximum penalty for this offence is life imprisonment.
