Community engagement

The Australian Federal Police is committed to working with the community to develop productive working relationships to benefit the Australian community.

The AFP aims to do this by:

  • Examining issues within law enforcement relating to crime and other issues the community identifies.
  • Looking at ways to encourage the community from diverse backgrounds to apply for roles in law enforcement.
  • Allowing the community to educate the AFP about their religion and culture.

Muslim Women's Camp: 13–15 February 2009

  • Develop leadership skills
  • Contribute your views to future AFP policy
  • Gain a deeper understanding of law enforcement
  • Participate in adventure-based activities
  • All costs covered by the AFP!

The camp will take place at Yellingbo in the Yarra Ranges Valley on 52 acres of beautiful undulating natural bushland.

Aside from having fun, developing leadership skills, and learning about ourselves and each other in a friendly women-only environment, the AFP aims to look at developing a common agenda around resolving community concerns about perceived racisms within law enforcement.

At the camp we will give you the option to participate in adventure, workshop and recreational-based activities. These activities not only provide great fun, but they are also excellent, dynamic and powerful experiential learning tools, that can be used to benefit and challenge you, positively impacting our lives beyond the camp program.

Through the camp we aim to:

  • Develop self esteem and confidence.
  • Gain insight, awareness and understanding into our own strengths, personalities and talents.
  • Learn to communicate and work together using our combined strengths and gifts in achieving goals.
  • Encourage attendees to extend themselves beyond their perceived boundaries/barriers or comfort zones.
How to apply

We invite you to apply for the women's camp so we can all look at ways to increase our ability to achieve our potential; whether this is in our current life roles as members of community organisations, as students, or in roles to which we aspire to achieve.

You may apply online via the online application form or by printing the PDF application form (PDF, 62kB) and sending it to:
