The Australian Federal Police (AFP) hosts the Australian High Tech Crime Centre (AHTCC).

Definition of high tech crime

High tech crime offences are defined in Commonwealth legislation within Part 10.7 - Computer Offences of the Criminal Code Act 1995.

Offences under these sections include:

  • unauthorised access, modification or impairment to a computer system
  • unauthorised impairment of electronic communication
  • unauthorised access to, or modification of, restricted data
  • unauthorised impairment of data held on a computer disk
  • possession or control of data with intent to commit a computer offence.
