Computer forensics
The Australian Federal Police's (AFP) Computer Forensic Team specialises in obtaining, analysing and presenting electronic evidence stored on computers and other electronic devices.
The AFP has computer forensics laboratories in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Canberra, and provides services primarily to ACT Community Policing and AFP National Operations, as well as other Government and law enforcement agencies.
Services
Common services provided by the Computer Forensics Team include:
- on-site assistance for the identification, examination and preservation of electronic evidence during search warrant execution
- laboratory examination of electronic evidence
- electronic data recovery
- archiving of electronic data
- password recovery
- data decryption and court attendance to give factual and expert evidence.
