What attracted you to the AFP?

The opportunity to do complex and meaningful policy work that would result in real-world benefits for the Australian community. In 1999 it was clear to me that the AFP, post the Ayers Review and the AFP Reform Program, would be positioned to play a greater role in Commonwealth law enforcement policy development in an increasingly dynamic international and national law enforcement environment, and would require sophisticated policy skills to effectively fulfil that promise.

What are your impressions so far?

My original expectations have been confirmed by the AFP’s rapid growth over the past seven years and its effective service in a variety of challenging areas. I particularly value the integrity and the positive outlook of the AFP, which creates a high level of trust and common purpose throughout the organisation. That’s part of a forward-looking organisational culture which supports the development of high quality policy advice and outcomes.
