Border Operations information
The Border function encompasses the three crime types of illicit drugs, people smuggling, and transnational sexual exploitation and trafficking.
Drugs
The AFP collaborates with various national and international law enforcement partners to implement strategies to disrupt and dismantle syndicates involved in the trafficking of illicit drugs. Recently, significant seizures of heroin, MDMA and cocaine have contributed to a reduction in the supply of drugs within Australia.
People Smuggling
The joint AFP/Department of Immigration and Citizenship People Smuggling Strike Team and the AFP’s International Network have actively worked together to disrupt people smuggling ventures. This has contributed to the continued suppression of people smuggling via the maritime stream to Australia.
Transnational Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking Team (TSETT)
TSETT investigates transnational sexual offences. This includes slavery and sexual servitude as prescribed under the Criminal Code Act and Child Sex Tourism through the Crimes (Child Sex) Tourism Amendment Act 1994, Part IIIA.
